The Orphan Crisis
UNICEF says there are over 100 million orphans living on the streets and over 8 million in orphanages. Recently it’s been discovered that over 80% of these children have been falsely labeled ‘orphan,” having a biological family living within a 5-mile radius.
The intention of creating orphanages was initially good – attempting to care for children who had lost parents or suffered from extreme poverty. However, they mostly ended up as an incentive, for parents in less than perfect circumstances to separate themselves from their children.
Children are meant to be in homes of loving families. Science-backed research supports the need for children to be loved and create healthy attachments. Evidence shows that children can experience debilitating harm in their developing brains if forced to grow up without attachment to a primary caregiver. And additional stats say, “those who survive a childhood in an orphanage can be 10 times more likely to be involved in prostitution; 40 times more likely to get a criminal record; and 500 times more likely to commit suicide.” (1MillionHome)
The AGAPE Model
“Back in 2008, leaders of an orphanage in Kisumu, Kenya realized most of the children in their orphanage had family they could go home to. After safely reuniting every one of these children with family, they began inviting children to exit street life and transition home. Since then, Agape Children’s Ministry has reintegrated over 3,000 children home and opened up a second site in Kitale, Kenya. 1MH has partnered with Agape to build a model of conversion and reintegration that guides orphanage leaders through successful conversion of their models of care.” (1MillionHome)
The goal is ultimately to shift the structure and value system of orphanages from separation to reunification – only encouraging adoption when absolutely necessary. The new mission is RESCUE, REHABILITATE, REINTEGRATE.

Fertile Soil
If you’ve read our intro post outlining our mission for Fertile Soil Friday, you know that we are firm believers in sowing to reap a massive harvest, i.e. sowing into fertile soil. If you haven’t, checked this out before, here’s a quick summary:
The intent of Fertile Soil Friday is to make you aware of the opportunities you have to sow into the kingdom of God, see heaven manifest on earth and expand your platform to receive from Papa God.
We believe that your continual and joyful giving creates, increases and sustains a momentum of receiving in your life. It’s not just your direct cause and effect relationship – there is actually multiplication and exponential increase. And yes, this extends into every area of life way beyond finances. If you want to continually receive, continually give. And giving out of an overflowing heart (not necessarily an overflowing wallet), into fertile soil can yield massive returns here on earth and indescribable riches in heaven.
Disclaimer: We do not have any affiliate relationships with the organizations we highlight and thus, do not financially benefit if you choose to give. We do this solely because we firmly believe in the soil we promote.
Our promise to you is that, regardless of our confidence in the information, recommendations or beliefs we share, we will always direct you back to Holy Spirit for final confirmation and ultimate direction. Don’t take our word for it – His is infinitely, eternally better.
