Giving is an extremely important part – if not the most important part – of generating, building and stewarding kingdom wealth. It is a massive part of the kingdom, in general. If you’re confused by this, just review the purpose of God sending Jesus as outlined in John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, HE GAVE …” And while we all know and have been familiarized with the law of sowing and reaping, I think there are two nuances of this spiritual principle that most people don’t realize:
1. Momentum
Your continual and joyful giving creates, increases and sustains a momentum of receiving in your life. It’s not just your direct cause and effect relationship – there is actually multiplication and exponential increase. And yes, this extends into every area of life way beyond finances. If you want to continually receive, continually give.
The reality you experience as a result of this momentum changes based on the posture of your heart. In other words, it’s not just the act of giving – it’s the why behind your actions. This means that the results of giving out of circumstantial monetary lack versus giving out of abundance may actually be the same. That is, if your sole purpose for giving is the overwhelming love and gratitude you have for Jesus and what He’s done in your life. This is part of the difference between a poverty mindset and an abundance mindset.
In this same way, giving when it’s a greater sacrifice (aka when money is tight) produces a different type of fruit than giving when there is more than enough. Why? Well, we will never have an opportunity in heaven to give as a sacrifice because we’ll always have everything we need and more. So the fruit that sacrificial giving produces in us now is unique and transformational.
Yes, we always give WITH expectancy. We are expectant in receiving earthly returns and heavenly rewards. But we don’t give BECAUSE of expectancy. This is all revealed in the posture of the heart and what mindset we’re operating out of.
2. Fertile Soil
The ultimate goal of all sowing is giving back to God what is rightfully His anyway. And while He does honor your gift to Him (regardless of what specifically you’re sowing into), we do firmly believe there is an “upgrade,” if you will, when sowing into fertile soil. This puts the responsibility on you to steward your giving, directing it towards that which you truly believe will reap a harvest.
This concept applies both to the tithe and to the offering. We believe your tithe belongs in your home church and a big part of this is trusting leadership to steward it well. If you don’t trust your leadership, that’s not a reason to not tithe but rather to get personally involved and use your giftings to make a difference. Being in a local community is a huge part of our walk of faith, so there is no excuse for withholding your love and resources from that which God gave you to grow you.
The offering on the other hand is more what Fertile Soil Friday is all about. Above and beyond your commitment to grow and prosper your local church, you have endless opportunities to sow into very fertile soil in every sphere of influence all over the world. And these opportunities are not just financial but will often include all available resources you can choose to sow. We’ll be highlighting different mission fields every week that we believe will reap a massive harvest both on earth and in heaven.
Adhering to both of these concepts requires, first and foremost, intimacy with Papa God. At the end of the day, you can never go wrong in following what He says and what you believe He’s calling you to do. He will always honor and bless your desire to follow His voice above all else. A continual, life-long relationship with the Lord is the goal. What we provide are just tools to deepen that relationship in different areas of life.
The intent of Fertile Soil Friday is to make you aware of the opportunities you have to sow into the kingdom of God, see heaven manifest on earth and expand your platform to receive from Papa God.
