1 Corinthians 12:8-11 says,
“The Spirit gives to one the gift of the word of wisdom.
To another, the same Spirit gives the gift of the word of revelation knowledge. And to another, the same Spirit gives the gift of faith.
And to another, the same Spirit gives gifts of healing. And to another the power to work miracles.
And to another the gift of prophecy.
And to another the gift to discern what the Spirit is speaking.
And to another the gift of speaking different kinds of tongues.
And to another the gift of interpretation of tongues.
Remember, it is the same Holy Spirit who distributes, activates, and operates these different gifts as he chooses for each believer.”
Now, if you are reading this God is activating you in the gift of faith. I know – it’s easy to think – “well a whole bunch of people are reading this, why does it make a difference for me?” It makes a difference because there are a million things you could be doing right now, a million different blogs you could be reading. But you’re reading this one. And I was commissioned by Holy Spirit to write this, not for me, but for you. You are being activated in the gift of faith!
What is the gift of faith?
The gift of faith is different from our saving faith:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
The gift to receive the grace of God through our faith in Jesus Christ has already been given to all people. All any individual has to do is believe and receive it in order to live in the abundance of His love and kingdom truth. But the gift of faith described in 1 Corinthians 12 refers to a spiritual gifting that is distributed, activated and operated by Holy Spirit as He so chooses for each believer. That means some believers walk in this more powerfully than others as Holy Spirit wills. ‘
You are now being activated in the gift of faith.
People who walk in the gift of faith believe in the manifestation of God’s Goodness and the glory of His Name when no one else does. In the middle of the darkness they see light. When everything looks hopeless, they see hope, release it and walk in it. This is not simply optimism – it is the ability to see God’s heart and truth when surrounded by evil and lies. It is being so consumed by a greater reality that what we see does not shake us or break us. We live constantly in the reality of our true home – heaven.
Now, there are different theologies on how these spiritual gifts “show up” and “stick around” for the believer. Some powerful men of God firmly believe that these gifts come upon you for a given task or mission. Others believe they are given to believers as their designated giftings for the rest of their lives. Regardless of which side you lean towards, the important thing to note, which Paul clearly states is this:
“It is the same Holy Spirit who distributes, activates, and operates these different gifts as he chooses for each believer.”
So whatever way you see it – it’s up to Holy Spirit to do it. And Holy Spirit told me to write this for whatever purpose He chooses to use it for in the life of every believer reading this.
Contradictory Evidence
If you feel like you’ve been pummeled by lies and doubt recently and are now reading this thinking, “this can’t be for me,” I promise you, it is. We are attacked the strongest in the area of our greatest gifting and our highest calling. Wherever we are of the most threat to the enemy we are pummeled the hardest. Your attacks are confirmation that this is what you’re called to, the gift you’re being activated in, and the spirit you were created to walk in. Whether it be for a season or for the rest of your life – you are reading this at the perfect time, says Holy Spirit.
Right now, you are being activated in the gift of faith.
This is now your privilege – to respond to Holy Spirit, ask for more and seek out the depths of this gift for God’s glory.
What questions do you have about walking out the gift of faith? What mountains will you attack first?
